Introduction

ASUS identifies environmental aspects based on company manufacturing and daily operation processes, and provides improvement programs to reduce possible environmental impacts. All environmental and social objectives and targets (previously only set at a site level) were achieved in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Meeting legal requirements and governmental regulations are of the outmost importance to ASUS' environmental management system. ASUS performed very well in the past three years in which we received no fines or violations across all sites worldwide.

Our focus of environmental activities is not only on relevant legislative requirements but also to strive towards our overall goal of to achieving our "Zero Pollution, Zero Accident" objectives. The following sections refer to ASUS' actions and performance in the areas that we believe are the key environmental impacts of our operations:

• emissions of Greenhouse Gases, energy management and efficiency
• other air emissions;
• water and waste water management;
• waste management;
• hazardous chemical management; and,
• transportation.

*Note: aggregated data on VOC is not available because ASUS' main manufacturing process is assembly which the only VOC source is organic solvent isopropyl alcohol (IPA). The amount of VOC from IPA is relatively small therefore ASUS only monitors the IPA density in the air rather then aggregated VOC throughout all sites. Please see the following table for the monitoring results.
